Painting Reveal Reception
A moment in time was captured in a painting. The people are real. The location is real. But the moment never really happened. Join us for the reveal of this amazing painting of members of the Gianni Buonomo Vintners Wine Club.
On August 1, 2023, Gianni Buonomo Vintners will begin its eighth year on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach.
In a short period of time we’ve gone from being a little startup in the insanely competitive world of wine, to becoming a producer of award-winning wines and being voted Best San Diego Winery for six consecutive years.
Gianni Buonomo was a longshot that came in.
We’ve had a good run.
Thank you for being part of it.
Looking back on our seven years, some of the most rewarding moments for me happened at wine club events. Whether it was a formal dinner, a release party or a Sunday-Funday gathering, the camaraderie and community that’s been created is both rewarding and enriching.
An amazing thing about this place is how relationships have been cultivated. It’s become a group of loving, caring, smart and interesting people that, fortunately, happen to like my wine. It has become the place where people come to be greeted with a glass of wine and familiar smiling faces after a day of challenges. Friends gather here. Because nothing lasts forever, I wanted the positive energy and spirit of this place to be captured and immortalized.
Enter artist and wine club member Gretchen Weidner.
Over a splash of wine late in 2021, I explained what I was looking for in a commissioned painting. I wanted something that would immortalize the winery and capture the colors and the spirit of the place.
I sent Gretchen photos of wine club members that I and taken at various events. In total, she received images of around 40 people. She told me there would only be enough room for about 20. I gave her artistic license to make the selection of people she felt best exemplified the warmth and essence I wanted to have illustrated.
She succeeded.
Gretchen completed this remarkable piece in March 2023. She put together images from several different events and enveloped them into a single moment at the winery.
She created a moment that, in reality, never actually happened.
Gretchen will be at the winery on Sunday, August 12 for a reception followed by the revealing of this incredible painting.
